What is the secret to building wealth? Ganpati Bappa has something to teach!
Do you believe that there is any magical formula to be a successful investor?
Well, I don’t believe that there is any shortcut as such.
I feel that the achievement of financial success is more to do with the person- the character traits he possesses rather than any secret set of rules.
On the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi, I have found a few traits which one should learn from Lord Ganesha to be a successful investor.

One of the important features of Lord Ganesha is his big and round tummy, which signifies that he can eat away all the sorrows and problems of one’s life.
This is the reason he is also known as ‘Vighnaharta’, meaning one who overcomes obstacles.
Every investor should learn this trait of Ganesha to face obstacles by being strong and brave during adverse situations which are very common in the share market.
The market is very volatile at times and the investor gets very frightened during such topsy-turvy situations.
So it’s very important to be mentally strong and use your brain to overcome such extreme situations.
Moreover, this trait is also very useful in the normal course of life.
(ii) Good listening–
Lord Ganesha has large ears which make him a good listener, another important trait one must possess.
Because of this, he is also named as ‘Surpakarna’.
It is said that if you listen properly, 50% of the task is already over.
Listening is a wonderful skill, which if you sharpen wisely, helps you create wonders, and like many says, good listeners are great motivators, communicators, and winners in their work.
“You have to listen to the people who have a negative opinion as well as those who have positive opinion. Just to make sure that you are blending all these opinions in your mind before a decision is made”– said Carlos Ghosn.
Be a good listener and you will be able to analyze a situation and make a decision more wisely.
Ganesha has a big head signifying the zeal to learn more, therefore try to gain little wisdom every day.
Learning has no limit and no age and it’s very important to keep learning and growing your knowledge and wisdom. One should become a learning machine.
Warren Buffett said,“By the age of 10, I’d read every book in the Omaha public library with the word finance in the title-some twice”.
Charlie Munger, partner and friend of Buffett has named him as a ‘learning machine’ and said that if one sees Buffett during the day, one will realise that half of his time is spent ‘sitting on his ass and reading’.
This love of reading is a common trait among highly successful investors. Warren Buffett advises, “Do a lot of reading”– on how to determine the value of a business and to invest wisely.
We know Lord Ganesha also by the name of ‘Vinayak’ which means a person ‘without a leader’.
This is the most important of all the traits.
Anyone with a leadership quality like Lord Ganesha, is easily able to accomplish his task and can also lead and motivate his team.
Someone said- ”If you are going to play a game, choose a game you can play throughout your lifetime and investing is one such game”.
A successful investor is one who has a patience and endurance, otherwise investing is not his area of competence.

Do you know why Ganesha has a tiny mouse as his vehicle?
This reflects the humility, love and respect that lord has even for the smallest of creatures.
This teaches us an important trait to be humble.
“A successful investor knows when to be ignorant and when to be humble”, said Whitney Tilson.
As a successful investor, you need to be arrogant in the sense that you believe it is your right to make any investment.
Assume everybody else out there with their collective wisdom and their supercomputers are wrong.
Say if an investor is not able to judge a company’s future prospect, he shouldn’t own it and also should be least bothered even he misses a multibagger.
So it is extremely important to distinguish when to be arrogant and when to be humble in both life and business.
One should try to inculcate all the traits of Ganesha in order to make his investing life happy and successful.
So before praying the lord in any hardship, it’s better to first learn all his traits.
