1990s: Limited to Doordarshan, BCCI paid Rs 5 lakh per match to them. 1993: Legal victory by Jagmohan Dalmiya and I.S. Bindra led to selling broadcasting rights to private channels, which improved the quality as well. Media rights now contribute over 50% of BCCI’s annual revenue.
The growth of India’s middle class and the popularity of cricket led to increased sponsorships from numerous companies. 2021: BCCI’s revenue reached Rs 3,730 crore, surpassing other cricket boards.
Launched in 2008, IPL became the most commercially successful cricket league globally. BCCI earned over Rs 2,400 crore from IPL. in 2022. 2023: The launch of women’s IPL expanded the league's reach and revenue potential.
Registered as a charitable organization, BCCI enjoys tax-exempt status, allowing reinvestment into Indian cricket.
